Final Manuscript Submission Instructions for Authors:
Important note: In order to have your paper published on IEEE Xplore, you must follow the guidelines provided below when submitting the final manuscript. Please allow sufficient time to go through the steps below. The final manuscript will be accepted in PDF format only and must be received by September 20, 2008.
1. Before submitting a final manuscript to MNRC 2008, authors must ensure their papers are IEEE Xplore compliant by using IEEE PDF eXpress. The IEEE PDF eXpress tool can be used to convert your source file (e.g., doc, LaTex, etc.) to an IEEE compliant PDF file, or to check your PDF file for compliance. Follow these steps:
2. A properly completed and signed IEEE copyright form must be faxed to +1.613.767.3290 or sent electronically to marco_dragic@cmc.ca. The copyright form can be downloaded here: http://www.ieee.org/web/publications/rights/copyrightmain.html
3. Final manuscript must be submitted as a IEEE Xplore compliant PDF file through the MNRC 2008 conference website. Please upload your final manuscript at: https://www1.cmc.ca/symposium_2008/registration/start/MNRC
Oral Presenters:
If your research was accepted for an oral presentation, you will be presenting your research on October 15, 2008 and compete for the Gold, Silver and Bronze Leaf Certificates. Your research will also be published through IEEE Xplore. Please note, one of the authors must register for the conference, attend the MNRC 2008 and present your research in order to compete and be published through IEEE Xplore.
Poster Presenters:
If your research was accepted for a poster presentation, you will be exhibiting your research on the evening of October 14, 2008 and throughout MNRC 2008 on October 15, 2008. Your research will also be published through IEEE Xplore however you will not be competing for the Gold, Silver and Bronze Leaf Certificates. Please note, one of the authors must register for the conference, attend the MNRC 2008 and exhibit your research in order to be published through IEEE Xplore. Please review the poster presentation guidelines below.
All MNRC 2008 Participants:
Author Agreement: By submitting a paper, the author(s) agree that, if their paper is accepted, they will:

Submit a final, revised, camera-ready version by the deadline for camera-ready papers: September 20, 2008

Register at least one author for the conference by the deadline for camera-ready papers: September 20, 2008
-
Attend the conference (at least one author): October 15, 2008
-
Present the accepted paper at the conference: October 15, 2008
* Important Note: For a paper to be included in the MNRC2008 electronic proceedings and published on IEEE Xplore, at least one of the authors must register for the conference, attend the MNRC 2008, and present the paper as accepted by the program committee (for poster or oral presentation).
Paper Format:
Paper submissions should be complete manuscripts, up to 4 pages (inclusive of figures, tables, and bibliography) in a standard IEEE two-column format. Papers exceeding the page limit will not be considered for review.
A brief abstract (approx. 50-100 words) and five keywords identifying the topic area are also required.

All paper submissions (draft and final) must be formatted using the standard IEEE US letter templates. The IEEE templates may be downloaded here:
Draft Paper Submission:
The MNRC Program Committee invites original, unpublished paper submissions for the MNRC 2008. Authors should clearly explain the significance of the work, highlight novel features, and describe its current status. The call for papers can be downloaded here.
All submissions are to be made electronically through the MNRC 2008 website. The deadline for submission has passed.
Authors will be notified of acceptance into the MNRC 2008 competition by the Technical Program Committee via e-mail by Monday, September 8, 2008.
Submitted papers will be subject to a peer-review process. Based on the review and the technical program committee recommendation, the selected papers will be accepted for either oral or poster presentation. All accepted papers will be published on IEEE Xplore. No hard copy of the MNRC2008 conference proceedings will be distributed during the conference.
Final Paper Submission:.
For final submission, the authors of accepted papers should submit electronically the final four-page camera-ready manuscript as well as the IEEE Copyright Form before September 20, 2008.

Awards:
MNRC 2008 best paper awards are specifically dedicated to graduate students. A number of Gold, Silver, and Bronze Leaf Certificate awards will be presented during the MNRC 2008 conference.
The graduate student papers accepted for oral presentations will compete for the awards as follows:

Top 10% will receive the GOLD LEAF Certificate (each Gold certificate includes a cheque of $1000)

10-20% will receive the SILVER LEAF Certificate (each Silver certificate includes a cheque of $600)
-
20-30% will receive the BRONZE LEAF Certificate (each Bronze certificate includes a cheque of $400)
In order to qualify for the awards, a paper must:

be accepted for oral presentation, and
-
have a graduate student as the first author, and
-
be presented by a graduate student.
NOTE: Recent graduate students who completed their post-graduate degrees in 2008 will also qualify for the competition.
CMC Microsystems Travel Subsidies:
To be eligible for a travel subsidy you must be:
- A full-time graduate student
- The primary presenter for either oral or poster presentations at MNRC 2008. Authors will be notified of acceptance into the competition by September 8, 2008.
- Please note: secondary presenters, other students and faculty members who are exhibiting (but not competing) in MNRC 2008 Competition are not eligible for travel subsidies
About the Subsidy:
Subsidies will be awarded to the primary presenter at MNRC 2008 based on proximity to the conference venue as follows:
Students who are traveling between 100-250 km are eligible for up to $200 (based on proximity to the conference venue)

Students who are traveling over 250 km are eligible for up to $350 (based on proximity to the conference venue)
Guidelines:

CMC will compensate primary presenters for all reasonable and approved expenses associated with travel, accommodations and meals for participation in the MNRC 2008 Competition up to the values noted above (based on proximity to the conference venue; original receipts are required) For an overview of approved expenses and related guidelines, please reference the CMC travel procedures

CMC will not provide a subsidy for travel within 100 km of the conference venue

If travel exceeds 100 km, CMC will compensate primary presenters who drive their personal automobile to the conference venue, at 0.48/cents per km (maximum of 600 kms).

The MNRC subsidy applies to individual travel only and cannot be transferred or combined with another subsidy
Payment of Subsidies:

Travel subsidies will be paid after the CMC Microsystems Annual Symposium, which takes place on October 14-15, 2008.

All claims must be submitted to CMC Microsystems within fifteen (15) calendar days of the end of the CMC Microsystems Annual Symposium.

IEEE Travel Subsidy
The IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) will provide partial travel support for student presenters to attend MNRC 2008, subject to available funds. To receive this support, the applicant must be:
- An author of an accepted paper and the presenter of that paper.
- A Student Member of IEEE Circuits and Systems Society when submitting the application.
- A full-time student registered toward a Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D degree in engineering or related field in a college or university when submitting the application. Please note that the partial financial support, if granted, may not be used for conference registration fees. It may be used only for travel expenses to present a paper at MNRC 2008 in Ottawa, ON, Canada.
If you meet the above requirements, please submit a 1-page application that includes:
- The title of the paper you will be presenting at MNRC 2008 (full title with full list of authors).
- Your IEEE Student number (for verification purpose).
- Proof of registration to attend MNRC 2008 (registration confirmation proof from the conference)
- Your agreement to present the same talk at your local CASS chapter if so requested by the local chapter chair. Please observe the strict 1-page limit.
