Frontenac, Lennox, and Addington Science Fair Awards
 

  CMC Microsystems proudly sponsors an annual science award at the Frontenac, Lennox , and Addington Science Fair (FLASF) in Kingston, Ontario. This year the Fair attracted more than 200 students from local elementary schools in categories such as Life and Earth Sciences, Human Health Sciences, and Engineering and Computer Sciences. CMC Microsystems sponsored the award for best project related to engineering, application of computers, design, or a project with a significant design/problem solving content in the Primary (Grade 5/6) and Junior (Grade 7/8) competitions. The winning students received a $100 gift certificate to Future Shop.
 

Timothy Amirault of James R. Henderson Public School received the CMC Microsystems Award in the Primary Competition for his project entitled "The Power of Sun". His project focused on the creation of a car that could be powered by solar and wind power. Timothy also received the following awards at the Science Fair:

  • The Gold Medal for the Primary Competition
  • A Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Special Award
  • The Bathurst Clarabut Geotechnical Testing Special Award
  • The City of Kingston - One Tonne Challenge Special Award
 

Burak Yoruk of Calvin Park Public School received the CMC Microsystems Award in the Junior Competition, with a project entitled "Smart Plant Watering Machine". Burak wanted to create "an intelligent machine that can water plants without supervision at a certain time of day" and was successful! Burak also received the following awards at the Science Fair:

  • The Silver Medal for the Junior Competition
  • A Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Special Award

Congratulations to both Timothy and Burak, Canada's future microsystems engineers!
