CMC Account Terms and Conditions

Account Holder

An account holder is an individual (not a group of individuals or an organization). As the account holder you are authorized to use your username and password. You are responsible for safeguarding your username and password.

Communications

As an account holder, you may receive two categories of communications from CMC:

  • Required – you cannot opt out of these
  • Optional – you need to provide your consent to receive these

Required

Required communications include reminders regarding licensing and confidentiality obligations, and requests for product and service usage reports. To ensure CMC satisfies commitments made to suppliers and funders of Canada’s National Design Network, you cannot opt out of these communications.

Optional

CMC sends regular technology-related emails with information on new tools and technologies, upcoming webinars, events, training courses, and other information for participants in Canada’s National Design Network. In accordance with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), CMC requires your consent if you want to receive these emails. You may opt out of these emails at any time in your Account, or by following the instructions at the bottom of each email.

Privacy and Confidentiality

CMC complies with all requirements for the collection, use and disclosure of personal information set out in the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), S.C. 2000, c. 5. And, unless exempted by PIPEDA, shall comply with the principles, as captured in CMC’s Privacy Policy.

Given the above, all information we receive from you, including your Account profile information, resource applications and survey responses, will be held in confidence within CMC. Aggregate data may be shared outside of CMC, for example, in reports to funders. CMC will not share any of your personal or identifying information without your specific consent, subject to the terms below.

Consent for Information Sharing Opportunities

CMC offers a variety of on-line community resources for information sharing. When you participate in community spaces, the act of writing and posting information in a forum is deemed as consent to share that particular information within the forum.

Consent for Product and Service Support

In order to provide you with products and services, you acknowledge and agree that: (i) your personal or identifying information will be visible to your organization’s technical personnel (e.g. STC manager); and (ii) your first and last name will be visible to other account holders within your research group. Your use of CMC products and services is deemed as consent to share your information in this manner.

Consent for General Information Gathering

Your use of on-line CMC products and services (e.g., software license access), may be recorded and such use is deemed as consent for the collection and related use of this general information by CMC to support its business activities.
