Online Course: Introduction to Ansys HFSS and HFSS for Antenna Design

November 19 and 20, 2020

This course begins with ANSYS getting started material using the ANSYS Electronic Desktop suite with a focus on the workflow, such as geometry construction, boundaries and simulation space with a focus on RF & microwave including filters & microstrips followed by post-processing with s-parameter plots. ANSYS HFSS is then applied to Antenna design for the bulk of the course. Topics cover how well different antennas absorb energy, finite element analysis, and impedance matching with circuit elements. Each attendee is to supply their own laptop/workstation.

Target Attendees

The prime target attendees are those who are interested in providing training and support other users in their research groups.


  • A background in microwave principles (S-parameters, transmission lines, radiation patterns) and antenna impedance matching.
  • Attendees are to use their own laptop/workstation and internet connection.

Equipment Requirements

The training will use the attendees’ laptops and internet connection. It is recommended to use a Windows host PC, preliminary instructions can be obtained from the Quick Start Guide: Installing ANSYS Electronics Desktop for Research via CADpass R20.
