Simon Wingar is currently the Director of Research and Development (acting) responsible for NRC’s Advanced Technology Fabrication and Canadian Photonics Fabrication Centre wafer fabrication and R&D facilities. He has over 30 years in the semiconductor wafer fabrication industry with the past 15 years at NRC. As part of the CPFC he is focused on the development of new technologies, the introduction of new products and the delivery of advanced integrated photonic devices in support of industry needs. Prior to that, he has held numerous engineering and management positions in the private sector including: Bell Northern Research and Northern Telecom in Canada. INMOS, Marconi and Philips in the UK and Infinera in the USA. Throughout his career he has had the opportunity to work on a wide variety of wafer fabrication technologies including CMOS, Bi-CMOS, GaAs HBT and GaN electronics and CdHgTe, GaSb, SiO2 and InP photonic technology platforms.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Photographic Sciences from the Polytechnic of Central London as well as an MBA from the University of Ottawa.
