The micro-nanotechnology (MNT) photo contest

  • Minimum resolution 255 x 406 pixels (150 DPI).

  • Maximum file size 32MB.

  • File types accepted: jpg, png, and gif. (Note - a .TIF file type is easily converted by opening in Paint, clicking "save as", and selecting the ".JPEG" file type.)

  • Ideal photos will show materials, microfabricated structures and devices, samples, wafers, etc.

  • Adding colour to images (e.g., electron micrographs) is acceptable.


  • Photos submitted must show innovations developed at university-based micro-nanotechnology fabrication facilities in Canada.

  • The competition is open to professors, students, research staff, and alumni from post-secondary institutions across Canada.

  • You may submit more than one entry.

  • All entries must be submitted by 11:59pm EDT on Tuesday, July 31, 2018.

  • Winners will be selected by CMC based on technical and/or artistic merit. Preference is for images, e.g., microscope images, electron micrographs, of physical prototypes.

  • Multiple winners will be selected. All winners will be featured in the deck of playing cards.

  • Winners will be notified by email and asked to provide a mailing address. Winners will each receive a set of playing cards with their image published in it.


By uploading an image you:

  1. Acknowledge that CMC Microsystems (CMC) may select the winning image(s) at its sole discretion; and

  2. Grant to CMC, in perpetuity, permission to use your image(s) in publications and promotional materials; and

  3. Warrant that the image(s) does/do not constitute an infringement on the intellectual property of any third party, including, but not limited to, any copyright of any third party.
