Quick Start Guide: Installing IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM Cortex-M and Accessing the License via CADpass R20

This quick start guide provides instructions for installing IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM Cortex-M Software on a Windows 10 system using CMC Microsystems’ CADpass to access shared licenses on the CMC License Management System (LMS).

Prerequisites

You must meet the following criteria before installing IAR Embedded Workbench:

  • Students must register with CMC at https://account.cmc.ca/MyAccount/MyAccount.aspx
  • Faculty supervisors can subscribe through the CMC subscription page at https://www.cmc.ca/subscriptions/
  • You must have administrator rights for the computer on which you are installing this software
  • You must have a unique login name (LINUX or Windows) that does not contain a blank space. The following are examples of unacceptable login names: admin or administrator, root, super, sysadmin, user, owner, student, guest, temp, and system.

System Requirements

  • Microsoft Windows 10, 64-bit
  • Microsoft Windows 7, 8, 32-bit or 64-bit are still supported, although not recommended
  • Internet Explorer 7 or higher

Setting up CADpass R20 for Use with IAR Embedded Workbench

CADpass R20 is a CMC Microsystems’ license access client and is used by subscribers across Canada to connect to our secure license server(s).

  1. Follow the instructions in the quick start guide to download and install CADpass R20.
  2. Start CADpass R20 and then log in using your CMC Microsystems Username and Password.
  3. When the CAD access window appears, double-click IAR Systems.

A red checkmark appears next to the entry, as shown in Figure 1. Leave this checked while you are using the software.

Obtaining the Software

The software is available to download from CMC’s IAR Embedded Workbench product page:
https://www.cmc.ca/iar-embedded-workbench-cmc-00200-04809/

Create a download directory on your PC to store the downloaded file, for example, C:\download\IAR.

Installing the Software

Follow these steps to install IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM Cortex-M:

  1. Double-click the installation EWARM-CD-7501-10273.exe file.

The files are extracted into a temporary folder. A page containing action items appears, as shown in Figure 2.

  1. Click Install IAR Embedded Workbench.

The window Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM appears, as shown in Figure 3.

  1. Click Next.

The window License Agreement appears.

  1. Select the check box I accept the terms of the license agreement.
  2. Click Next.

The window Choose Destination Location appears.

  1. Keep the default configuration and click Next.

The window USB Driver installation appears, as shown in Figure 4.

  1. Keep the default configuration and click Next.

The window Select Program Folder appears.

The window Ready to Install the Program appears.

  1. Click Install.

The window Setup status appears.

It may take a few minutes to finish. You are prompted to confirm if a USB Dongle driver needs to be installed.

  1. Click No, as you will access the IAR license via CADPass R20.

At the end of the installation, the window InstallShield Wizard Complete appears.

  1. Click Finish to close the window.

Setting up IAR License Access

  1. Make sure CADpass R20 is running and IAR is selected, as indicated in Setting up CADpass R20 for Use with IAR Embedded Workbench
  2. To launch IAR License Manager, from the Windows 10 Start menu, select IAR Systems | IAR License Manager.

The License Wizard window appears, as shown in Figure 5.

  1. Select Use a network license, and click Next.

The window Choose server appears.

  1. In the window Choose server, click Add a server.

The window Servers appears, as shown in Figure 6.

  1. Select LMSERVER-3 and click OK

The window Choose server is displayed again, as shown in Figure 7.

  1. Click Next

The window Finish appears.

  1. Click Done

The window Extract files appears, as shown in Figure 8.

  1. Click Yes.

The IAR Library Source for ARM begins to be extracted.

  1. Click Finish when the window InstallShield Wizard Complete appears.

You are now returned to the window IAR License Manager and are able to view the license server information and license features for ARM, as shown in Figure 9 and Figure 10, respectively.
