This quick start guide provides instructions for installing Synopsys ASIP Designer 2020.03-SP3 on a Windows 10 system using CMC Microsystems’ CADpass to access shared licenses on the CMC License Management System (LMS).
Prerequisites
You must meet the following criteria before installing Synopsys ASIP Designer:
- Students must register with CMC at https://account.cmc.ca/MyAccount/MyAccount.aspx
- Faculty supervisors can subscribe through the CMC subscription page at https://www.cmc.ca/subscriptions/
- You must have administrator rights for the computer on which you are installing this software
- You must have a unique login name (LINUX or Windows) that does not contain a blank space. The following are examples of unacceptable login names: admin or administrator, root, super, sysadmin, user, owner, student, guest, temp, and system
System Requirements
- Microsoft Windows: 10 (64-bit), Windows Server 2008 R2, 2016 (64-bit)
- Windows 7, 64-bit is supported, although not recommended
- Windows OS: The following compilers are supported:
- 64-bit Visual Studio 2015 (14.0), 2017 ( min. 15.9), 2019 (16.x)
- Linux:
- RedHat Enterprise Linux 6.6+, 7.x; CentOS 6.6+, 7.x, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12.x (64-bit)
- The following compilers are supported: g++ 5.x, 6.x, 7.x, 8.x, 9.x (64-bit)
Setting up CADpass R20 for Use with Synopsys ASIP Designer
CADpass R20 is a CMC Microsystems’ license access client and is used by subscribers across Canada to connect to our secure license server(s).
- Follow the instructions in the quick start guide to download and install CADpass R20.
- Start CADpass R20 and then log in using your CMC Microsystems Username and Password.
- When the CAD access window appears, double-click Synopsys.
A red checkmark appears next to the entry, as shown in Figure 1. Leave this checked while you are using the software.

Obtaining the Software
To obtain the installation file for the Windows version of the software, contact CMC via tech support: https://account.cmc.ca/Help/EngSupport.aspx
Some site information including site ID, site administrator, and contact information will be required to install the Windows version of the software. You can request it from CMC when you request the installation file.
The Linux version of the ASIP Designer is distributed via the STC system, as well as on CMC’s cloud.
Installing the Software
Follow these steps to install the ASIP Designer on Windows 10:
- Double-click the installation ASIP_Designer_vQ-2020.03-SP3_win.exe file.
The Welcome page appears, as shown in Figure 2.

- Click Next.
The window Site Information appears, as shown in Figure 3.

- Input the site information that you obtain from CMC, and click Next.
The window Choose Users appears, as shown in Figure 4.

- Select the option that is suitable for you and click Next.
The window License Agreement appears, as shown in Figure 5.

- Select I accept the terms of the License Agreement and click Next.
The window Choose Install Location appears.
- Keep the default configuration and click Next.
The window Choose Start Menu Folder appears.
- Keep the default configuration and click Next.
The window Starting Copying Files appears.
- Click Accept,Next, as shown in Figure 6.

The installation will take a few minutes.
- Click Finish in the window that automatically appears after the installing is done.
Setting up Synopsys ASIP Designer License and Test the Installation
To test the installation, an example is compiled.
- Make sure CADpass R20 is running and Synopsys is selected, as indicated in Setting up CADpass R20 for Use with Synopsys ASIP Designer
- To launch ASIP Designer, from the Windows 10 Start menu, select ChessDE Q-2020.03-SP3.
- To open an example, from ChessDE menu, select File | Open | Project.
- Navigate to C:SynopsysASIP DesignerQ-2020.03-SP3win64examplestmicro
- Select prx and click Open.
- To compile the model, in ChessDE, from the menu, select Compile | Make.
The Compilation starts, as shown in Figure 7. It will take some time to finish. Once it compiles, it proves that the installation and the license configuration work.
