CADpass client secure connection (will be referred to as CADpass client or CADpass in this document) is a utility provided by CMC Microsystems that creates a secure connection between client PCs, workstations, and computer sessions, and the CMC-managed infrastructure.

This quick start guide provides instructions for installing Synopsys Photonic Solutions software on a Windows 11, 64-bit system using CMC Microsystems’ CADpass client to access shared licenses on the CMC License Management System (LMS).

Prerequisites

  • Professors, Research Supervisors, and their research teams must register with CMC at https://fabricinnovation.ca/member/.
  • Professors and Research Supervisors can subscribe through the CMC subscription page at https://www.cmc.ca/subscriptions/.
  • You must complete all required agreements for this software use, which may be obtained from CMC Technical Support.
  • You must have administrator rights for the workstation on which you are installing this software.
  • You must have a unique login name (Linux or Windows) that does not contain a blank space. A username such as “charlie brown” contains a space, while usernames such as “charlie.brown” or “charlie_brown” do not contain spaces.

    The following are examples of unacceptable login names because they are not unique: “admin”, ”administrator”, ”root”, ”sysadm”, ”user”, ”owner”, ”student”, ”guest”, “temp”, and ”system”.

Setting up CADpass client for Use with Synopsys Photonic Solutions Software

  1. Follow the instructions in the CADpass client quick start guide to download and install the CADpass client.
  2. Start the CADpass client and log in using your CMC Microsystems Username and Password.
  3. When the CAD access window appears, double-click Synopsys.

A red checkmark appears next to the entry, as shown in Figure 1. Leave this checked while you are using the software.

Obtaining the Software

  1. Sign in to your CMC account.
  2. Go to the CAD tools webpage at https://www.cmc.ca/tools/.
  3. Locate the link to download Synopsys software.
  4. Click the link and choose the software that matches your requirements for version and operating system (Windows or Linux).
  5. Follow the prompt to download the installation file(s).

Installing the Software

The Synopsys Photonic Solutions software that you download from the CMC website is an executable file. Save it to a temporary directory on your local computer.

  1. Double-click the installer executable.
    The installer wizard appears as shown in Figure 2.

  1. Click Next.
    The dialogue License Agreement appears.
  2. Read the text, and check I accept…

  1. Click Next.
    The dialogue Select Destination Location appears.
  2. Enter or browse to your installation folder, and click Next.
    The dialogue License Type Setup appears.
  3. Select Network (Client Installation) and click Next.
    The dialogue Network Client Setup appears.
  4. In the field Synopsys License Server, enter [email protected].

Note: Always check CADpass Licensing Information for the latest port number and license server name.

  1. Click Next.
    The dialogue Ready to Install appears.
  2. Click Install to start the installation.
    When the installation finishes, the Completing the Synopsys Photonic Solutions Setup Wizard appears.
  3. Click Finish to complete the installation.

Running a Synopsys Photonic Session

To start a Synopsys Photonic Solutions session:

  1. Ensure that the Appgate appliance on your workstation is connecting to our Synopsys Licence Server, and that you have selected the Synopsys entry in the CADpass Client window as shown in Figure 1.
  2. From the Synopsys Photonic Solutions folder in the Start menu of your computer, launch the OptSim program.
  3. The program opens as shown in Figure 3.
