The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) Joins CMC Microsystems

October 31, 2022: CMC Microsystems, Canada’s leading hardware technology facilitator and accelerator, is pleased to welcome the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) to CMC

By joining CMC, student and faculty innovators at UPEI gain access to an extensive offering of world-class facilities and software to design, fabricate, and test their ideas. These resources, as well as access to CMC’s ecosystem of researchers, start-ups, and entrepreneurs, will help students develop skills they need to thrive in the competitive, advanced technology marketplace.

The partnership builds on UPEI’s strong foundation of core academic excellence that encompasses both theory and practice in both the classroom and the real world. The University’s programs in sustainable design engineering and computer science give students the opportunities to turn conceptual ideas into practical solutions and work experiences that will serve graduates in their chosen career paths.

President and CEO Gordon Harling saw a great fit for UPEI in CMC. “UPEI has emphasized a student-centric, personalized learning environment. CMC’s offerings give students access to a comprehensive innovation ecosystem and new opportunities for collaboration with researchers and entrepreneurs from across Canada. With our state-of-the-art tools and proven track record in delivering training and technical support, CMC services are an important addition to the student experience at UPEI.”

For UPEI’s Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering, and School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, joining CMC is another way to give their students and researchers simplified access to the best possible tools while contributing to innovation in Canada. “Partnering with CMC Microsystems will accelerate research and innovation at UPEI by reducing the barriers to technology adoption and connecting students with a national community of industry partners and entrepreneurs,” said Dr. Greg Naterer, Vice-President Academic and Research.
