Quick Start Guide: Installing Mentor Graphics PADS CAD Software via CADpass R20

Licensing Requirements or Restrictions
Usage terms and conditions apply to this software. For more information, refer to Licensing Requirements or Restrictions on the associated product page:

Table of Contents

This quick start guide provides instructions for installing the latest Personal Automated Design System (PADS) CAD suite, bundled with the HyperLynx design-rule checking tool, on a Windows 10, 64-bit system, using CMC Microsystems’ CADpass R20 to access shared licenses on the License Management System (LMS).

Prerequisites for Installing PADS with CMC License Manager System (LMS)

You must meet the following criteria before installing PADS:

  • Register with CMC Microsystems here: https://account.cmc.ca/MyAccount/MyAccount.aspx
  • Faculty supervisors must also register through the CMC subscription page at https://www.cmc.ca/faculty-gets-an-account/
  • Complete all required agreements for Mentor Graphics’ software use, which may be obtained at https://www.cmc.ca/tools/
  • You must have administrator rights for the computer on which you are installing this software
  • You must have a unique login name (LINUX or Windows) that does not contain a blank space. The following are examples of unacceptable login names: admin or administratorcmcmgrrootstcmgrsupersysadmuserownerstudentguesttemp, and system.

System Requirements

The following are the minimum recommended system requirements for a complete installation on a Windows 10, 64-bit workstation running PADS:

  • Workstation with a dual-core Intel or AMD microprocessor or better
  • 8 GB or more of memory
  • Swap space of about 2x the amount of RAM
  • Active network connection (to reach our license server)

More recommendations about hardware and operating system are listed in the PADS’ September, 2019 release highlights. These are included with the PADS download.

The PADS CAD suite release uses specific Microsoft Visual C++ compilers. During installation of PADS, the host system is automatically checked to see if it meets these requirements. If they are not, the Microsoft Visual C++ redistribution software is installed.

These instructions are specific to a Windows 10 environment. It is assumed that no other instance of Mentor Graphics is installed on the host workstation.
