Promotions & New Roles:
- Udson Cabral Mendes has been named Director of Technology. He leads five core-technology teams (Microelectronics, Photonics, MEMS, IoT and Edge AI, and Quantum Technologies) and is responsible for driving the organization’s vision for advancing adoption, commercialization and R&D of advanced technologies in Canada.
- Luke Govia has been named Manager, Quantum. Luke joins CMC after working most recently as Staff Research Scientist at IBM Quantum. His role will be to implement CMC’s strategy of accelerating quantum adoption in Canada – moving quantum computing from the research lab to industrial use cases and applications. This also includes developing training and upskilling offerings to ensure that Canada has the talent necessary to succeed in the quantum revolution. He holds a M.Sc. in Physics from the University of Waterloo, and a PhD in Physics from the University of Saarland.
- Dan Deptuck has been promoted to Senior Principal Scientist, Advanced Technology. In this newly created role, he will:
- Offer top-level direction and detailed technical guidance across projects in all technologies
- Mentor scientists, project leaders, and managers to promote skills development and knowledge sharing
- Shape and implement the technology vision and roadmap for CMC Microsystems and FABrIC to align with emerging opportunities and market needs
- Strengthen partnerships within the Canadian Semiconductor ecosystem
- Jessica Zhang has been promoted to Manager, Photonics. In her new role, Jessica will lead:
- Multi‑Project Wafer (MPW) services with key suppliers including Applied Nanotools (ANT), Advanced Micro Foundry (AMF), GlobalFoundries (GF), and introduce new photonics technologies to our service offerings
- Development of industry-relevant photonics training
- Creation of process design kits (PDKs), cell libraries and novel photonics IP
- Foster partnerships within the Canadian Photonics ecosystem
- Patricia Greig has joined the CAD Business Unit to support all CAD related activities.
- Yassine Hairi has been promoted to Manager, IoT and Edge AI. In his new role, Yassine will oversee:
- Development of IoT demonstrator and Edge AI demonstrators
- Development of industry-relevant IoT and AI training
- Drive collaboration Canada’s IoT and AI ecosystems
