Programs

Since its founding in 1983, CMC has been instrumental to the success of Canada’s semiconductor industry. During the era of globalization and subsequent fab and foundry consolidation, it negotiated critical manufacturing agreements that enabled emerging Canadian companies to prototype and test their products. The domestic industry would have been severely compromised without CMC’s efforts.

As the significance of domestic semiconductor capacity to high-performance 21st century economies was clarified in the early 2020s, CMC has continued to innovate with new programs that support a resilient Canada.

FABrIC, our marquee program, is a 5-year, $217M Strategic Response Initiative funded by the Government of Canada to accelerate the national semiconductor industry.

CMC basecampâ„¢

FABrIC provides wide-ranging support for skills development, including micro-credentialing and intensive hands-on training. CMC basecampâ„¢ courses introduce engineers and scientists to advanced technologies, faster. These courses provide a unique combination of theory and lab work through a design/fabrication/test cycle of your very own microchip.

VIE logo

CMC’s Virtual Incubator Environment (VIE) for startups offers a suite of CAD and Simulation Tools, training courses (charges apply), webinars, documentation, and IT support from CMC staff. Start-ups can access state-of-the-art-tools with access to new software as it becomes available.

DUET-logo

CMC’s proposed initiative, Dual-Use and Emergency technologies (DUET) is a network of SMEs, large multinationals, Canadian national and provincial organizations, academic research teams and foreign partners developing innovative cost-effective, made-in-Canada dual-use solutions to address military and/or civilian safety & security threats

Canadian MNT Labs

Accelerate your micro-nanotechnology (MNT) innovation through CMC’s comprehensive domestic and international lab network. We connect academic and industry researchers to world-class, open-access cleanrooms, nanofabrication facilities, and microfluidics labs across Canada. As a key partner in the Global Nanolab consortium, our extended “network of networks” provides access to state-of-the-art equipment and standardized best practices spanning North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Discover the right facility to power your next breakthrough, or list your own lab in our national directory to reach a broader community of innovators.
