As plant manager of Teledyne MEMS, a Canadian MEMS foundry specializing in custom microfabrication, Bonham brought with him a wealth of experience that helped to support CMC’s efforts to connect industry, academia, and government partners. Under his leadership, the Board provided oversight during a period of expanding national focus on semiconductor innovation, talent development, and commercialization.
“Serving as Chair of CMC Microsystems allowed the privilege of working alongside exceptional board members, staff, researchers, and industry leaders who are committed to advancing Canadian innovation,” Bonham said. “Together, we helped strengthen connections across the semiconductor ecosystem, supported the development of world-class talent, and positioned CMC to play an even greater role in Canada’s future technology competitiveness.”
During Bonham’s tenure, CMC continued to build on more than four decades of supporting advanced technology innovation in Canada. The organization manages federal and provincial investments that help researchers and companies accelerate commercialization, strengthen Canada’s high-tech ecosystem, and advance globally competitive technologies.
CMC secured funding to lead FABrIC, a $217-million Strategic Response Fund initiative, which is helping build a vibrant and sustainable Canadian semiconductor ecosystem anchored by world-class talent and global impact.
FABrIC is a crucial step to growing Canada’s semiconductor industry, developing new made-in-Canada semiconductor-based IoT products and manufacturing options, while creating a resilient and sustainable domestic semiconductor ecosystem in Canada. It is also helping to build a pipeline of trained talent, including upskilling programs that ensure essential industry skills are in place to strengthen Canada’s competitive advantage.
FABrIC aligns with CMC’s broader mission to lowering barriers and making chip design and fabrication more accessible to its traditional research partners and increasingly to industry.
CMC also expresses its appreciation to Lisa Lambert, who recently completed her service as a member of the Board of Directors. As inaugural CEO of Quantum Industry Canada, Lambert contributed valuable insight and leadership that helped support the organization’s strategic priorities and long-term growth in the areas of quantum technologies and the broader semiconductor industry.
“On behalf of everyone at CMC Microsystems, I want to thank Steve for his dedication, leadership, and commitment to our mission,” said Gordon Harling, President and CEO of CMC. “Steve’s steady guidance helped the organization navigate an important period of growth and opportunity. We are also deeply grateful to Lisa Lambert for her service and contributions to the Board. The strength of CMC has always been enhanced by board members who bring perspectives from across the semiconductor industry, academia, and the research community, enabling us to better serve Canada’s innovation ecosystem.”
The organization noted that the diverse expertise represented on its Board remains an important asset in guiding CMC’s work to support advanced technology research, talent development, and commercialization across Canada.
