Training: Introduction to EMX Planar 3D Solver Using Cadence EMX 6.0 RAK

Online, self-paced, available from May 15, 2022

Cadence® EMX® Planar 3D Simulator provides electronic design software to design high-frequency, RF and Mixed-Signal complex integrated circuits (ICs). EMX simulation tool allows designers to accurately and efficiently simulate large RF circuit blocks, characterize the behaviour of passive components and analyze the parasitics. EMX tool can be integrated into Cadence Virtuoso, thereby allowing EM simulations to be run directly from within Virtuoso. This can involve EM simulations, generation of Spectre models, creation of symbols and schematic views among other options.

This training is the first of many courses being planned as part of the RF Basecamp training series, which is part of what CMC Basecamp offers. This specific course is intended for designers who want to become familiar with Cadence EMX Planar 3D Solver. Attendees will have access to Cadence EMX 6.0 RAK in CMC cloud and they will go through it at their own pace.

Important Notes

All participants (or their supervisors) must fulfill the following requirements:

  1. Have an active CMC account.
  2. Have a CMC subscription.
  3. Must be physically located within Canada to have access to Cadence technology from the CMC cloud. If you are leaving Canada, even for a short period, please notify us. Your access will need to be paused and then resumed when you are back in Canada.
  4. Please review and accept the Cadence Terms of Use that will be emailed to you.

Training Schedule

This is virtual self-paced training. The training tarball and instructions will be available by mid-May. A live Q/A session will be held on June 15 at 2 pm EDT. If you have any questions regarding the materials used for this training, you can bring them to this Q/A session. The meeting link will be sent to all the registrants.

Design Flow and Labs

This training is with 50nm SiGe GPDK technology and will include:

  • EM Analysis of an inductor
  • Lumped Circuit Model Creation
  • EM Analysis of Partial Layout Structure
  • Viewing the Mesh in ParaView
  • EM Analysis Using Black-Box Cells

Pre-requisites

Knowledge of the Virtuoso platform and microwave theory is recommended, but not required.
