2023-24 Activity Report – Opening April 1StÂ
We are asking professors to complete it by May 1st, 2024. It is the time of the year again where CMC is asking professors to complete their annual Activity Report to measure the impact of CMC’s Products and Services on their research, commercialization activities and their student training. The information collected in the Activity Report is vital for federal and provincial funders. Please check your emails and contact Sandra Poulin at [email protected] for any assistance.Â
Arm Processor Design and Prototyping Â
Arm is one of the most widely used families of processor cores worldwide, from low-power, battery-operated embedded devices and smartphones to compute servers. In addition to incorporating Arm-based COTS components into board-level designs, commercial and academic users can integrate Arm processor IP into their custom-manufactured SoCs.Â
CMC is a member of the Arm Semiconductor Education Alliance, which provides teaching and learning resources for STEM education and research. Researchers have access to an extensive catalogue of processors, physical IP, and tools through the Arm Academic Access program.Â
SoC Design Contest 2024/25: Understanding Our World Â
Following on from the successful “Bridging the Skills Gap” contest in 2023, where SoC Labs supported teams through conference attendance and silicon tape out, they are pleased to announce the “Understanding Our World” SoC design contest for 2024/25. DetailsÂ
The Quantum Nano Fabrication and Characterization Facility (QNFCF) is announcing the commissioning of an Inert Atmosphere Fabrication Lab (IAFL) to enable development of 2D layered material devices. The IAFL contains a suite of fabrication tools which are attached to or contained within multiple nitrogen gloveboxes, enabling multiple fabrication steps without the sample leaving this environment.Â
For more information about this equipment and its capabilities please refer to the news release, equipment page or on the website.Â
Publications – CMC Microsystems
CMC is excited to share some recent publications we have been working on with the community. These papers cover research topics in Quantum, Photonics, and Embedded Systems. More

CAD Update
Synopsys adds AI-driven verification to the University Program bundle. Installed and ready for use now.Â
FABrIC
CMC is getting excellent support from the federal government on the FABrIC program and from the province of Quebec on a number of initiatives. We hope to restart programs we were forced to drop or increase prices and to be able to return to higher subsidies sometime next year.Â
