Ottawa, ON—October 28, 2025—The Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) and CMC Microsystems are proud to announce a new national partnership designed to advance Canada’s semiconductor ecosystem by building a highly skilled and future-ready talent pipeline.

With the right support, Canada’s semiconductor industry will not only contribute billions of dollars and create thousands of jobs for the Canadian economy – it will enhance the competitive capacity of our most important industries.

That is the core message behind the pre-budget submission jointly developed by CMC Microsystems, ICTC, SECTR, ventureLAB and Canada’s Semiconductor Council. Semiconductors are the backbone of a 21st century economy. From telecommunications, automotive, advanced manufacturing to mining and natural resources, precision agriculture, oceans and medtech, a vibrant semiconductor sector is essential as Canada mobilizes to strengthen domestic industries and pursue global markets.

The submission underscores the need for a secure talent pipeline, protections for Canadian intellectual property ownership and retention, and the need for the facilities and infrastructure to fabricate semiconductors.

June 26, 2025: Twenty-three recipients representing twenty projects of the first round of FABrIC Challenge Projects were announced today. Leveraging $35.6M in total investment, the $13.4M in funding provided by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED), calls on the semiconductor industry to innovate in product and process development to enhance the resilience of the supply chain for Canadian industry, from healthcare to the automotive sector. Managed by CMC Microsystems, FABrIC is a five-year, $223 million initiative to secure Canada’s future in semiconductors.

June 6, 2025: CMC Microsystems had the honour of hosting the 28th World Micromachine Summit, held from June 3-5, 2025. Gordon Harling, President and CEO of CMC, also served as head of the Canadian delegation at this year’s Summit.

April 22, 2025: For the first time in its history, CMC Microsystems was part of the Team Canada delegation at HANNOVER MESSE 2025, the world’s premier industrial trade fair, which took place from March 31 to April 4 in Hannover, Germany, and drew over 150,000 attendees from across the globe. CMC along with several other organizations represented Canada’s semiconductor ecosystem. This included many members of FABrIC, an initiative to accelerate made-in-Canada IoT products and semiconductor fabrication processes made possible through a  $120M investment by the Government of Canada.

February 24, 2025: FABrIC, a five-year project to secure Canada’s future in semiconductors managed by CMC Microsystems, has formed a strategic partnership with SECTR, Canada’s Semiconductor Ecosystem & Center for Talent & Research. Under this partnership, FABrIC and SECTR will develop and deliver training programs to address the talent gap in semiconductor design and development.

February 6, 2024 – SemiQon from Finland, and Canada’s CMC Microsystems announce a collaboration agreement to advance silicon-based quantum processor technology. Under the terms of the agreement, SemiQon will supply CMC with prototypes of its semiconductor-based quantum processor chips for research purposes. CMC scientists will collaborate with SemiQon to accelerate the development of processors for more powerful quantum computers suitable for the next generation of quantum computing – the million-qubit era.
